Hello! I'm Erik
I’m Chief Economist at the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE), Fellow at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Associate Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and College of Europe, and Consultant Economist at the World Bank.
My areas of expertise include the transformation of globalization and its increasingly intangible and digital nature, geopolitics, international trade and technology policy, and the political economy of the global economy.
Prior to my appointment at ECIPE, I was lecturing full-time at the London School of Economics (LSE) where I taught international trade and political economy at post-graduate level. In the past, I also gained various professional experience as a consultant and advisor to the OECD, APEC, ADB, ITC, and the World Bank Trade Research Department. I received my PhD in Economics from Sciences-Po Paris and did my post-doctorate also at the LSE.
I have published many peer-reviewed articles ranging from economics to political economy, book chapters, working papers and reports, and made contributions to various international organizations. I have also taught at the European University Institute, World Trade Institute, and I have been a Research Fellow at the Hertie School. My work has appeared in The New York Times, the Financial Times, Politico, The Hill, among other outlets.
